North Americans are so focused on family travel, but its beneficial for couples with children to vacation alone. There are numerous advantages, and the boutique properties travel PR firms like ours represent offer the kind of peace and tranquility that is ideally suited for rekindling the connections moms and dads so sorely needed.

Unplugging from the demands of work, helping with homework, and the constant monitoring required with children – and especially teens – is essential. Too many feel obligated to take the kids with them and mental health practitioners universally recommend couples do this.

While its great to go to a resort in the Caribbean, or overseas to Europe or a far-flung destination in Asia you’ve always wanted to see, nearby inns and bed and breakfasts offer a less costly alternative. A long weekend at a hotel with a spa and golf course is ideal, and usually within driving distance.

Here are a few suggestions:

Off-season the rates are affordable, and the food at this Relais and Chateaux property is topnotch.
