I have slept in many a luxury hotel bed. So what defines it as luxury? Well, for one it’s the percale – very high. And the mattress – its got to be firm. Whether I am in Bangkok, New York City or the Riviera Maya, there are many things I love about luxury hotels. Most of all its that “hermetically sealed environment,” which puts me in a calm, meditative state upon entering the threshold.
So, get ready — confessions of a luxury hotel PR maven follow, of what I love about checking into a new guest room:
1. Its spotless – there isn’t a piece of lint on the floor.
2. There are plush, fresh, over-sized towels in the bathroom.
3. The desk is just waiting for you to sit down, and in a relaxed way, make a call or check your email.
4. I feel like I am far from the noise of day to day life.
5. There’s that leather bound book with the menus, that I immediately start perusing and decide what to order up.
6. I can call the front desk and ask the temperature outside any time of the day or night.
7. There’s a card by the phone with spa offerings: should I schedule a scrub, massage or Reiki?
8. There are the fresh flowers by the bedside. (Not a petal brown or tarnished in any way.)
9. There’s turn down. And oh, those chocolates! Once I found the linen closet and swiped a handful.
10. And I always grab some hotel stationary and immediately start writing my long lost best friend or one of my kids.
