New Yorkers and tourists alike take advantage of the warm weather at Brooklyn Botanical Gardens

Since I have had the good fortune to visit dozens of countries over the course of my travel PR career, I wanted to share some of the most amazing from NYC – both big and small that come to mind. (Stay tuned in future blogs for sites outside of the Big Apple!)

  1. Brooklyn Botanical Garden – The highlight here for me is the greenhouse, which client’s of my husband underwrote, Michael and Judy Steinhardt, and clearly extends a friendly hand to the borough that loves parks!
  1. View from the Empire State Building in NYC – Always a winner when showing friends from out of town, or just on your own. But hold onto your hat – the observation deck can be blustery!
  1. Sunset Over the Manhattan Skyline from a Plane – If you’re coming in from overseas, there’s nothing like the emerald city at sunset. It’s ethereal and dream like, so make sure to get a seat on the left side of the plane if coming back from Europe!
  1. Central Park Zoo – My favorite here are the hilltop with the monkeys. It’s fascinating to see their behavior as they sit grooming one another. And the designers have done a superb job of recreating a natural environment.
  1. Metropolitan Museum Christmas Tree – This baroque wonder is always on display at holiday time, and for many years it was a family tradition to have a look. My favorite was the crèche – even if you are not Christian, it provides a link to the divine.
  1. Grand Central Station – The buzz is always in the air, and one only has to look up to see the constellations for a moment of peace and awe. Thank goodness Jackie O got behind saving this incredible monument, when backing the efforts of the Municipal Arts Society.
  1. South Street Seaport – For a step back in time, this beautifully restored area will give you a peak. And there are great venues for drinks and dining. The ships are accessible so it’s great for kids and grandkids – and adults as well!
  1. Govenor’s Island – Recently made more accessible, I once visited with my husband’s AIA Chapter, and found the history fascinating. No longer a Coast Guard base, there are places to walk, picnic and bike.
  1. Frick Museum – My favorite painting by Ingres graces this once-mansion. Replete with fascinating pieces – primarily 18th and 19th century, this is an oasis of calm in the city.
  1. Madison Avenue and 57th Street – This is a great place to start a shopping stroll, either downtown or uptown, because all the best designers have shops here. Don’t be afraid to ring the buzzer and hold your head high…even if you don’t intend to buy!

So next you visit New York City, the heart of the US as far as I am concerned, let us hear from you about your faves!
