Invariably, the travel press covers packages for that famous date of romance: February 14th. Smart hotel marketers use this as the fulcrum for attracting media coverage and getting heads on beads – preferably the same one when it comes to lovers. But what are some examples of creative, out-of-the-box packages that will get attention?

Having been active in hotel PR as a boutique travel public relations agency for over three decades, I’ve come up with everything from safari expeditions for adventurous couples to delivering magnums of Dom Perignon to lucky couples staying in a suite at a posh hotel.

Here are some examples of eye-catching Valentine’s Day hotel packages which SheKnows.com published, which is a closely followed blog:

  1. A Legendary Love Package, at the St. Regis Atlanta.

Atlanta has a range of luxury hotels from the Ritz-Carlton to the Four Seasons, so there’s lots of competition for guests on this popular getaway weekend. Incorporating what’s going on in town is a clever way to bring life to your Valentine’s getaway.

“The St. Regis Atlanta is bringing their story to life through its A Legendary Love package, which includes luxurious accommodations in a St. Regis suite complete with its own Juliet balcony, two VIP tickets to the Atlanta Ballet’s production of Jean-Christophe Maillot’s Roméo et Juliette.”

  1. Love Poems For Two: A Couples Massage For The Mind And Soul, at the Library Hotel NYC.

One of my favorite hotels in Midtown is The Library, and I was pleased to see how this hotel would bring out the inner poet in me if I brought my husband along. I’m tempted to try this package, because it also includes a private, one-and-a-half-hour poetry workshop with Karen Clark, the hotel’s poet-in-residence.

What makes this even more press worthy is that it’s being offered during National Poetry Month. This particular package makes coverage timely by pegging it to Poetry Month.

  1. Ski Lovers Package at Bentwood Inn in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

For ski enthusiasts, Bentwood’s Natural Valentine’s Weekend Package offers three days and two nights packed with fun and interesting fare. This innovative offering includes everything from a guided naturalist hike, followed by a sleigh ride through the national elk refuge, to a four-course meal featuring regional offerings such as bison and trout. Two nights in alpine luxury sounds inviting to me, a ski fanatic since early childhood. But Bentwood makes it sounds hard to turn down a weekend at one of the best mountains in the West.

Bentwood is a retreat surrounded by gorgeous wilderness. Its log-built, rustic design befits its surroundings, yet is supremely comfortable. What could be more romantic than curling up in front of a roaring fire with a hot toddy in the resort’s main lounge?
