With the exchange rate the lowest its been in decades, shopping now in Paris and going out to eat has never been better from a pocket book perspective. Our NYC PR firm tracks trends like this to keep our readers up to date on when and where to travel.

Recently, my daughter and son-in-law visited and they had spent a few days in Paris and bought a few items, gorgeous ones I might add. With it practically being one dollar to the Euro, you can’t go at a more opportune time for shopping if that’s one thing you love to do while traveling.

Years ago, when our travel PR agency represented Hilton, we found shopping to be the number one activity people like to do when traveling. Of course, dining out and museums were in the top five too. So if fashion is your thing, and who isn’t into looking and feeling good in beautifully made clothes — head to Paris.

Other places to visit while in Europe for shopping would also include London and Prague, which is very hip. So if you like boho and off beat, head to Chelsea, Old Kings Road and Portabello Road in London. There are lots of shops for jewelry and accessories of all kinds in those places. In the town center of Prague just start ambling, and you’ll be amazed at what you find. Prague is a nighttime city so go out late afternoon and just stroll around — you are bound to hit on some great places.

Since its Spring now, heading to Europe is prime time, because you avoid the summer crowds, when lots of Americans visit. So you’d have plenty of time to hang with the locals…and they are friendly in Paris, contrary to popular opinion. Staying in the first arrondissement is a good idea since its so central, and there are some lovely boutique hotels with under 50 rooms where you can get a room for under $200.
