Abelow PR Celebrates 15th Anniversary: Pioneers
“Google Relations”
In 1993, Lorraine Abelow, founder and president of Abelow
PR, began her agency with one client, Hilton International. Since that time she
has weathered the storms of ups and downs in the economy, maintaining a
boutique agency with a staple of clients in a variety of market segments.
“We’ve remained buoyant by being diversified, and leveraging
the online media to give clients a big bang for the buck” says Ms. Abelow, a
Westport citizen, who also grew up here. “While travel and hotels has always
been a core strength, we have also done décor, wine and spirits, corporate and
financial, and hi-tech.” Remaining a small agency with a select group of
clients allows the agency to service them personally on a day-to-day basis,
says Ms. Abelow. She has a team of
pros in NYC and Chicago she works with regularly.
In the past five years the agency has developed an expertise
in what Ms. Abelow calls “Google Relations.” She says the online media has become extremely important in
gaining visibility for a company, as 75% of upper income individuals in the US
begin their search for information online. “We drive out clients’ future customers to their websites
through both online and traditional media, such as magazines, newspapers, radio
and television.”
Abelow PR has partnered up with a Pasadena, California based
agency called Expansion Plus to focus more on search engine visibility (SEO)
for the agency’s clients, by publishing optimized press releases imbedded with
the client’s keywords, and by regularly supplying new and interesting content
to the their website, Working with Expansion Plus, Abelow PR places an RSS Feed
(Real Simple Syndication). That
works to drive the client’s website up in the Google rankings, which “in this
day and age is the name of the game,” says Ms. Abelow.
Everybody wants to be on page one, and near the top of the
Google entries, she explains.
Studies have shown that organic listings on Google pull far better than
the paid advertisements on the right side of a Google page.
Regular RSS feeds are something that Ms. Abelow does for her
own agency, on such subjects as public relations campaigns for spas and hotels,
and the importance of online visibility.
The agency redesigned its website to be optimized so that it will be
easier for prospects to find it when searching for a PR agency. The new website was recently launched
and as a result new leads have been coming in on a regular basis.
“I decided to do what we recommend to clients, and its
working!” she commented. One
client, Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts in India saw the company move up in
the Google rankings with a tremendous amount of online visibility from a single
press release the agency distributed to an online wire service. The release was
about Leela’s “Martini Master,” at
the hotel in Bangalore. Abelow had coined the phrase “Martini Master,” and saw
it take off online with over three pages of Google entries that stayed up for
weeks. “The client was very pleased,” she said.
Abelow PR has served local clients like Tetley in Shelton,
CT and is currently working with Salon Green, a new eco-friendly hair salon on
Main Street in Westport, owned by Vincent Palumbo of Peter Coppola Salon.
