The Canadian market is huge — in fact for North America, while their population might be smaller, the numbers of frequent travelers to the Caribbean, Central America and South America approach those of the US.

It’s important to target this market when planning your marketing and travel PR activities and there are some key ways to do this to reach a broad audience.

While the East Coast around Toronto and Montreal are important, Vancouver is booming, and central Canada also has some major cities not to be ignored. So what are the best ways to reach this actively traveling group?

Here are a few suggestions we’ve found at our boutique PR agency that work for our properties south of the border year round:

  1. Major City Newspapers – The Toronto Star is a widely read newspaper both in print and online. The Globe & Mail is also very influential, and we frequently place our stories in these publications. There are quite a few in Montreal, both in French and English, including the Gazette and Le Journal de Montreal.

  1. Syndicated Newspaper Chains – We’ve had lots of success with the National Post, which is syndicated to some fifty newspapers, and they just eat up the stories based on the press we host on FAM trips.

  1. Regional Magazines – Ontario Magazine, Toronto Magazine and the likes of the regional state and city magazines feature colorful spreads of our properties, and these publications are closely read.

  1. Blogs – There are quite a few blogs catering specifically to the Canadian sunbirds, so make sure to include those in your outreach. Bloggers, while they may not have as high a circulation as a newspaper or magazine, get picked up by Google and help your property or company get ranked better, so they should be mined.
