I’ve been promoting travel companies for decades and have learned effective ways of getting our clients exposure. One option is finding a news story that will captivate publishers. Since source outlets like writing about events, that’s a good place to start. But first, Travel PR agencies must have media relations. And we do. Check! Next on the list is to have something happening near you that reporters would want to write about. Well, my team researches all of the current and upcoming trends going on in your area that tourists would find interesting. Check!

A great example of an event that draws a lot of attention is a festival. Having traveled extensively to Agra in India, one that comes to mind is the Kailash fair. Held about 12km (7.5 miles) from Agra, the celebration is dedicated to the appearance of Lord Shiva in the form of a stone lingam, a symbol of energy. It’s only fitting that the commemoration takes place at this Hindu deities’ home, the Kailash Temple, near the Taj Mahal.

Oh, and did I mention that the Kailash Fair is happening right now? It’s celebrated in August and September, near the end of the monsoon months, India’s rainy season. Knowing this schedule is important. Many of the people who plan trips to places like India are Americans. Since the US and India are so different, travelers from America usually look for “touristy” times of the year that best define Indian culture like the Kailash Fair.

Boutique PR Firm Hosts Media Relations Trips To India

One of my best experiences in India was when I represented Leela Palaces. The campaign was done on behalf of Indus Travels, a private tour company. For the project, my NYC PR agency took a press group there with freelancers writing for various publications. While covering the Leela, the articles were based on many of the events that occur in India. The visit ended up generating a cover feature in Condé Nast Traveler with an eight-page spread and stories from The New York Times, BusinessWeek, and ForbesLife, among others.

I also took the same press group to Jaipur, the Pink City of India. During our time there, we stayed at the Oberoi Amarvilas in Agra. The hotel offers stunning views for its guests. From my room, I could look out my window and see the rooftops of the Taj Mahal lining the horizon. Breathtaking! After my experiences, I can say that the Oberoi is on par with the Leela Palaces in terms of service and accommodations.

In addition to planning campaigns for our clients that align with events, our travel PR firm also creates them. You can find out more about what launches, openings, and other events we’ve planned by visiting our Luxury Lifestyle PR page or by giving me a call.
