All too often, an agency will try to convince a client in the Caribbean for example, to send down a top photographer from the city. But we have been able to locate reasonable photographers. For example for our properties in the Dominican Republic, on of the hottest destinations in the Caribbean, we use a photographer in the capital in Santa Domingo.

The key is drawing up a shot list, with exactly what you are aiming to convey, and making sure the photographer understands. A good photographer will wait for the lighting to be just right, usually early morning or late afternoon.

It’s also important to take pictures with and without models. Top magazines want both, so it’s vital to shoot it both ways. And they are looking for a wide range of shots for each property from indoors, to activities, to food, cocktails and the like. Details are great to because they give the flavor of what the consumer will taste.
