The Leading Lady: An elegant, sexy cocktail fit for the silver screen.

The Leading Lady: An elegant, sexy cocktail fit for the silver screen.

This year’s Academy Awards are going to be a battleground. As we prepare for the most glamorous night in Hollywood, we have a few cocktails that you should include for your Oscar parties that are sure to impress your guests. Here are a  few leading and supporting cocktails for your fete this Sunday.

The Leading Lady

This gem comes from our client Martin Miller’s Gin and is an absolutely delicious sparkly treat to add some glam to your gathering. If your budget allows, opt for a nice rose champagne (Veuve Clicquot is a solid choice) to add the signature pink. The champagne will be flowing in Hollywood so it might as well flow at your home! Accompany this cocktail with fresh oysters for a luxurious addition as they are perfectly paired with both gin and champagne. We love this sexy take on the eponymous French 75.

1.5 oz Martin Millers

.5 oz lemon juice

1/4 oz Sugar Syrup

(Shake the above together, strain off the ice and pour into flute)

Top up with Pink Champagne

Garnish with a rose petal.

Interesting note: In Casablanca, Yvette (played by Madeleine LeBeau) orders a French 75 as Victor Lazlo orders another champagne cocktail. Champagne cocktails and the silverscreen go hand in hand!

The Hitchcock

Given that this is the 86th Annual Academy Awards, we think it’s worthwhile to include a classic for this classic event. Something that was imbibed decades ago but also today. How about a twist on the classic G&T? Yes, please. Here’s an homage to the classic elixir with a most devilish blood-red twist.

1.5 oz Martin Miller’s Gin

.5 oz sloe gin

.5 oz beetroot puree

Fever tree Tonic Water

Cocktail note: The deep red of the beets adds a delightfully sinister twist on the gin and tonic and is a delicious, fresh way to spice up your Oscar party. Much as Mr. Hitchcock loved to make a sneaky cameo on screen, slip this into your guests’ hands – they will love it!

Alcohol played a prominent role in many Hitchcock’s films as he loved  exploring the theme of altering states of reality.
